3. Framing

Shooting An Interview − Creating the perfect shot

FP - Shooting an Interview - 3. Framing

Summary

  • Position the camera at eye level of the interviewee
  • Zoom in to a bust shot
  • Keep the direction that the interviewee faces open, using the rule of thirds (eyes at one-third from the left or right and one-third from the top)
  • The interviewee should look at the interviewer
  • The interviewer should sit outside the frame, as close as possible to the camera

Exercise

Practise creating the perfect framing. Keep the rule of thirds in mind, and have the interviewee look just past the lens.
