Summary
- Place the reporter in the middle of the frame with his or her eyes one-third from the top of the frame
- Make sure you film them from the waist up so that the editor has enough room to make cuts in the edit
- With the reporter addressing the camera, you can also choose for the classic rule of thirds, keeping some free space next to the reporter
Exercise
Practice filming a reporter who is addressing the camera by shooting two introductions:
- The reporter in middle of the screen, saying they’re at the building where someone tried to steal the famous artwork last night
- The reporter at the side of the frame (rule of thirds) where they’re standing in front of the artwork that had almost been stolen
For this exercise, it is not necessary to alternate roles. Don’t forget to make a recording to evaluate your work!
