Summary
There are four different mediums you can use to tell your story. You can combine all of these, and use whichever you like.
Interviews
- Ideal for interviewing inexperienced speakers
- Can be used to ask spontaneous questions
- The interviewer can easily steer the conversation
- The interviewer asks questions on behalf of the audience
Two tips when conducting interviews:
- Have the interviewee include the question in their answer
- Focus on the answers and create a relaxed atmosphere
Reporters
- Host of your video
- Come in many varieties
- Give great control over the content
- Can function as glue for your content
Voice over
- Convey authority and trust
- Commonly used for corporate films
- Requires detailed script (ideal if you want control over wording)
Handy rules of thumb:
- 120 words = 1 minute of video
- 250 words = €350, and progressively cheaper the longer your text is
Eddie can help you with your voice over script. Just ask!
Titles on screen
- For when people can’t/won’t listen to audio (e.g. narrowcasting or social media)
- They work explanatory
- Useful for chapter division
- Often combined with one or more of the mediums discussed in this video
